Georgetown’s M Street is considered to be one of the best shopping streets in the entire country. The high-end avenue has become a pivotal starting point for many visitors to Washington.
But what about the people who already live here?
The friendly and regal face of the Potomac Center is the new social icon for Georgetown residents.
A warm light for all mankind.
The Potomac Center (Fall 2023)
The main design element for this project was the building's facade. The Potomac Center's was assembled in layers and drew from a combination of styles found in classic Georgetown architecture.
Interior programming also informed a large portion of the facade design. The double-height multi-purpose room on the second floor of the Potomac Center influenced the placement of a large window above street level.
Symmetry and repeated elements were key concepts in blending the architecture of the Potomac Center with its classical surroundings.
To make a community center that felt very approachable, a large percentage of the facade was devoted to void space and glazing that revealed the interior to passersby.
Specific fenestration and decorative elements are emphasized by their depth on the facade. The second floor in particular protrudes out further than other areas of the building.
